Award-Winning Story

In June of 2024, I received the St. Juan Domingo Collegiate Award as part of the national Catholic Media Association's student and alumni journalism honors. Student submissions come from both the U.S. and Canada.

At the heart of this amazing honor is my grandfather, whose story I told in the article, "Chicago's Catrachos: How Honduran immigrants built and maintained their presence in the city". I also had the honor of interviewing three other Honduran immigrants, one of whom was an asylum seeker kidnapped by border patrol.
